BREW WITH A VIEW EVENTS 2013

Another part of Jurassic Parkinson's ongoing quest to get Geocachers up them there hills. We have been caching since October 2010 but one day after routing around for a magnetic key holder under a bin in a busy town centre I suddenly realised that there was more to caching than this. So our New Years resolution in 2013 was "Quality not Quantity" which in my books means summits. In order to get a full appreciation of the surroundings at the top of a hill, I now always sit down with a nice hot drink and most of the time enjoy the views of our beautiful countryside, and the idea for "A Brew With A View" (BWAV) was born.

24th FEBRUARY 2013 BLEABERRY FELL

GC459EH

The first Brew with a View event, held on the summit of Bleaberry Fell, SE of Keswick in the Lake District. Only 8 attendees and the joint FTF and winning photos go to Meteodale for "On the way up from Watendlath" photo and Cowriecreek for the "Views to die for" photo. Well done guys some great pictures.

14th APRIL 2013

SEATALLAN

GC47DPP

Selected because of its remoteness, and its lonely cache (GC1G87F) has only had  28 visits in the last 5 years. It's also a Wainwright and listed on the Summit Cache website.

16th JUNE 2013
CARNEDD Y FILIAST
GC4CDH7

Another wild and remote location but this time in North Wales. Only one cache in the area (GCHPA6) which is 9 years old and has only had 31 visits in those 9 years. It's also gets you a point on the summit caching league.

18th AUGUST 2013
MOEL CYNGHORION
GC4GWXC

Returning back to North Wales. This summit lies in the shadows of the giant Snowdon, but whilst it's larger neighbour gets all the attention this one is generally forgotten. With only 37 visitors to this cache (GCYPZ8)  in the last 7 years it's a must for a BWAV..

13th OCTOBER 2013
CROSS FELL
GC4N6A0

High up in the Howgills this cache (GCNK6A) has an unusual 2.5/5 rating for those completing their DT grid, it also forms part of the Tyne Tees 5/5 Challenge (GCNK6G). An overnight stay in the Greg's Hut bothy is also on the cards.

15th DECEMBER 2013
DODD FELL HILL
GC4TEJV

9th MARCH 2013

ROUND HILL

GC459C5

The second BWAV event, held on the summit of Round Hill, NE of Ilkley. Better numbers this time with about 23 attendees. Great to see Skaface celebrating his 10K land mark. Winning photo and FTF for the event  is Dan's panoramic photo.

12th MAY 2013

BLENCATHRA

GC49GKM

Selected as Dave (The Royston Mob) wouldn't shut up about it, and there's a number of other people wanting to bag this one (GCVE67). Blencathra or Saddleback is also listed on the summit league and it's a Wainwright with a great ridge walk. Weather permitting I'll be doing a wild camp at Scales Tarn the night before.

21st JULY 2013
GREY FRIAR
GC4EH6Q

A cache on a summit that is slightly of the beaten track. The cache (GCQ1BJ) has less than 10 visitors on average each year. Time this great summit got a few more visits.

15th SEPTEMBER 2013
PEN LLITHRIG Y WRACH
GC4KA59

Staying in Wales, this cache (GC11BWC)  is on the summit of an unpronounceable hill. The cache was published in 2007 and has only had 39 visits in 6 years. Plenty of other caches in the forests at Betws y Coed and the awesome Zip wire at Bethesda nearby (http://www.zipworld.co.uk/)

17th NOVEMBER 2013
GLARAMARA
GC4QCXC

A last minute change of venue here as a few of us had an opportunity to exeperience the VFX (Via Ferratta Xtreme) at Honister Slate mine which is highly recommended.(http://www.honister.com/via_ferrata_xtreme.asp)

The cache at the summit of Glarama is another one that doesn't get enough visitors (GCTC4V)

Located South West of Hawes, this cache (GCXC02) has only had a handful of visitors in its 7 years of existence. Recently adopted by Andy & Becky Riley who check on it once a year whilst marshalling the Fellsman Fell Race.
